For 14 years Dr. Patrick Vaughan has been working in the area with various schools and clubs. Specializing in sports medicine and the father of active kids has given Dr. Vaughan a very unique perspective on practicing medicine. “I get to give back to the community and I also know that for athletes, getting back to being active is vital to their recovery. It takes a lot of dedication, planning, and work to get them there. It is setting high goals with realistic expectations.” His favorite part of his work is seeing young athletes who have had serious injuries going back out and competing in their sport, including a football player who had a torn ACL; aftercare started and he was soon able to run for 150 yards and a couple of touchdowns.
In his free time Dr. Vaughan is a full-time father keeping up with his family. He enjoys going to his kids’ sporting events, skiing, and traveling. Dr. Vaughan grew up in San Diego and he really misses the sunshine in these long, gray months we sometimes get into here in the Northwest. This probably helps to explain why he and his family are always trying to enjoy the outdoors. Dr. Vaughan has history on both coasts of the United States; he was born on the East Coast and when he was at school in Georgetown he met his wife who went to Tacoma’s own Bellarmine Prepatory School. Family is very important to Dr. Vaughan and he decided to move back to Washington so his wife could be to hers.
Dr. Vaughan is the team physician for the Tacoma Rainiers and if he could play a sport professionally he would choose baseball. He would like to play first base as it is a position that requires both speed and power. If he was not an orthopedic physician Dr. Vaughan would like to be an architect building and designing various places. If he had to choose between robot housekeepers, moon cities, and flying cars he would like robot housekeepers so he and his family could spend more time together.
Thank you, Dr. Vaughan for all the care you have continuously shown here at Puget Sound Orthopaedics!
