Puget Sound Orthopaedics Recognizes Amazing Team of Medical Assistants and Cast Technicians at Tacoma, Gig Harbor and Lakewood Clinic Locations

Orthopedic Medical Assistants Recognition Week

The week of October 21 – 25 is National Medical Assistants Recognition Week. At Puget Sound Orthopaedics we’re celebrating the ongoing success of our 16 medical assistants and two cast technicians. Thank you for providing compassionate care to our patients.

Medical assisting work is rigorous, detailed, and highly rewarding. This is because our medical assistants and cast technicians work with you throughout your experience with us. They’re with you when you first arrive until you’ve healed.

Medical Assistants Provide Clinical Care

Medical assistants serve as a conduit for communication. They work inside and outside of the exam room. A medical assistant welcomes you, checks your vital signs, reviews your medications and allergies, and takes your medical health history.  The medical assistant records a visit summary to share with your doctor.

On the clinical side, medical assistants remove sutures, staples and help bandage wounds.  They take you to have x-rays or casts.  Medical assistants answer your questions and help with referrals to other doctors or specialists. They assist with minor in office procedures, and prepare rooms between patient visits.  They manage these tasks all while helping to keep the doctors and PA-C’s on time.

Casting Technicians Play Major Role in Your Healing Process

Cast technicians are medical assistants who are trained in casting. Their role is more focused, but no less rigorous. Casting technicians apply varying casting techniques for different injuries, and work with our doctors to set casts according to the doctor’s direction. The length of a cast has to be exact for proper healing, bumps must be avoided to lessen discomfort and everything must be done before the fiberglass wrap hardens.

Why Puget Sound Orthopaedics Medical Assistants Love Their Work

When we asked our medical assistants what keeps them excited about work, we received a clear response. YOU!

Our team of medical assistants is passionate about helping you get better. They say watching people come into our office in pain is the most challenging part of their work. But, when a patient is able to leave our practice healed and enjoying life again. Well, that’s a natural high that makes all of the multitasking work they do worth it.

Our medical assistant team also enjoys the camaraderie they have created together.

“Our strength is our team,” says Sarah Alexandre who is a team lead for Puget Sound Orthopaedics in Tacoma and Gig Harbor. “We cross train with each other so we know how each provider works and what they need.”

Medical Assistants are A Lot Like You; They Like to Play

It’s not surprising that our hard working medical assistants are passionate about their playtime. Popular activities for our medical assistants include spending time outdoors from hiking to hunting to softball and more. The medical assisting professionals at Puget Sound Orthopaedics contribute to your success, and our success, on a daily basis. We appreciate and celebrate their dedication to great health.
